File Server

The file server allows you to make available files for others to download, without much interaction from yourself. To set file server options, go to DCC Options section of Client Setup and select the file server tab.

File Server Options

Default server directory - This specifies the default base directory that users will have access to. Users will not be able to browse above this directory. For example, if you specify c:\Vortec\Downloads, users will not have access to c:\Vortec. However, users will have access to all subdirectories in the specified directory.

Maximum downloads per connection - This tells Vortec how many files you will allow each user to request from you.

Idle timeout - This is the amount of time a user may be in the file server without activity before he is automatically disconnected.

Logon welcome message - This is a standard text file that will be displayed to a user when they log into the file server.

Once the options are complete, you are ready to allow users onto the file server. A user may type HELP and get a list of available commands. When a user requests a file, it will be sent to them using DCC.

In order for someone to access your file server, you must grant them permission using the /faccess command. Example: /faccess JohnDoe c:\public 5

Automating Access to Your File Server

You want to have more automation, you can use the Events section of Vortec to automatically handle granting of file server access. For example... to allow anyone access to you file server

ON NOTICE:*!fileserver:*:/faccess $nick c:\public 3

Then a user can simple type /notice yournick !fileserver to gain access. The usage of such an event is entirely up to you.

Using a File Server

When you grant access to your file server for someone with the /FACCESS command, Vortec will attempt establish a DCC connection with the user via a DCC CHAT. This section describes what commands are available to the user once connected to a Vortec file server. You may send a message to any user by selecting their name in the list and typing in the input edit just as you would a normal channel or query window.
