DCC Settings

These settings allow you to define how DCC is handled.

Auto accept DCC chat requests - It is not recommended to enable this. When enabled, you will automatically accept any DCC chat request. Doing so can leave you vulnerable to Denial of Service attacks, so do not enable this unless you are aware of this risk.

Warn on client exit - This will warn you if you have any DCC chats still connected when you try to exit Vortec.

Auto accept DCC transfers - Not recommended for reasons listed above.

Create new folder for each nick - This will create a new folder when someone sends you a file. For example, if Rob sends you a file, Vortec will save it in the folder C:\VortecIRC\Downloads\Rob\<filename>.

Limit DCC Ports - This is useful if you are behind a firewall and want to open a limited number of ports for security.

DCC block size - Specifies size of blocks, or "chunks" to send at a time using regular DCC Send. Lower size provides more reliability but affects download speed. The default should be fine for most users.

Ignore files of type - You can ignore certain file types, like .exe and .vbs to help prevent virus infections and whatever reasons you like.

Default directories - Allow you to specify folders for saving and sending files. You can choose to save to or send from any folder at any time, these are simply the default locations.

Default server port - specify the default port for Voice Chat connections. Vortec uses a bi-directional UDP port which sends and receives data on this port.

Audio format - By default, Vortec will use PCM at 8 kHz Mono 1 kb/sec. You can select a higher sample rate in Client Options. Alternatively you may choose to be prompted for codec selection each time you use the /dcc voice command. This will allow you to select a different codec such as GSM 6.10, MP3, or speex.

* When using a different codec you must agree with the receiving party on which codec to use. Be aware that although you may have a particular codec installed on your system, the other person may not have it. If both parties are not using the same codec and settings, this will cause major problems such as very loud pulsing sounds, popping, or static coming from the speakers. You both must use the same codec and sample rate.

DCC Manager

You can specify the behavior of the DCC manager here.

File Server

This is where you specify settings for your file server. Using the /FACCESS command, users can connect to your computer and view, read, and download files listed in the specified folder. You can specify the maximum number of downloads each user may have per connection, as well as an idle timeout for disconnecting the user after specified period of inactivity (in seconds).
